Meet The Team

At Thomson Hunter Associates, our architectural team in Ayrshire combines creativity, technical expertise, and a client-focused approach to deliver outstanding design solutions. Each team member brings specialised skills, industry knowledge, and a collaborative mindset to every project. We work closely with clients across residential developments and the education sectors to understand their vision and requirements, ensuring designs are practical, functional, and visually compelling. Our commitment to innovation, attention to detail, and effective communication guarantees a seamless design process from concept to completion.

Craig Thomson 
Director

Craig has over 40 years' experience in Architecture. He was brought up on the south side of Glasgow being educated at Hutchesons Grammar School followed by Strathclyde University. Craig joined the family business of Henry Dawes and Sons in 1984, becoming practice principal in 1989. Through a series of name changes and the incorporation of a new director, the practice is now Thomson Hunter Associates Ltd. Craig's experience is wide ranging having worked with clients from simple domestic extensions Arabian princes. Design work includes housing of all types, industrial design, farm buildings and office developments in addition to projects within retail and commercial sectors. Outside of work Craig is a keen curler, plays chess and a Rotarian.

Andrew Hunter 
Director
Architect

With over 26 years of experience, Andrew brings deep knowledge and a dynamic spirit to his role as Co-Director. A graduate of the Mackintosh School of Architecture, he qualified as an Architect in 2004. His leadership extends beyond design—he manages large-scale projects, nurtures client relationships, and oversees the practice’s operations with precision and care. Andrew’s practical approach is grounded in experience; he designed and built his own home to gain first-hand insight into the construction process—an understanding he applies directly to his work with clients. Outside the office, his energy is just as evident. Once a budding (but not very good) rally car driver and now a youth rugby coach, his enthusiasm and drive carry into everything he does. This unique blend of technical expertise, leadership, and genuine passion makes Andrew a vital part of the team. He is committed to fostering a strong creative vision while keeping the practice rooted in a client-first, community-focused philosophy.

Roddy Dunn 
Associate
Architect

Roddy is an accomplished Architect with over 20 years of experience across commercial, residential, and public sector projects. He began his career in Central Scotland and has since contributed to large-scale developments with a focus on hospitality, sports, and leisure design. Known for his hands-on approach, Roddy is passionate about delivering projects from concept to completion, with particular strengths in design management, technical detailing, and contract administration. Outside of architecture, Roddy is a dedicated endurance athlete, regularly competing in Ironman events, ultramarathons, and open water swims.

Grant Herron
Associate
Architect

Grant is an ARB-registered and RIAS-chartered Architect based in Kilmarnock, delivering high-quality, sustainable architecture across Scotland. A graduate of the Mackintosh School of Architecture, his work is environmentally conscious and tailored to client needs. With over 20 years of experience in project management and contract administration, Grant manages a diverse portfolio of complex projects—from secure government facilities and cutting-edge laboratories to award-winning residential developments.  Drawing on a mountain biker’s precision, he consistently delivers innovative and resilient architectural solutions.

Kris Rutherford
Associate
Architect

Kris is passionate about contributing positively to the built environment through contemporary architecture and sustainable design. He is experienced in managing projects through all work stages, with extensive knowledge in administering building contracts and delivering high-quality outcomes during the construction phase. Holding DipArch and BArch degrees, Kris studied part-time at the Glasgow School of Art and became a qualified Architect in 2018. He has been with THA for over 19 years. Outside of the office, Kris enjoys playing golf, watching sports, and spending time with his family.

Fiona Sutherland
Associate
Architectural Technician

Fiona is a qualified Architectural Technician with an HNC in Architectural Technology and over 20 years of experience in the residential and commercial sectors. She delivers accurate technical information to support successful project outcomes, working on private homes, extensions, and commercial buildings. Fiona collaborates closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to ensure well-coordinated design and construction. She also supports contract administration, monitoring site progress and documentation. Outside of work, she enjoys travelling, drawing inspiration from diverse architectural styles around the world.

Kristina Thomson 
Office Administrator

Kristina is the Office Administrator at THA and has ensured smooth daily operations since 2013. Holding a BA from HELIA – Helsinki University of Applied Sciences, she manages bookkeeping, invoicing, and provides essential support to both directors and staff. Her versatile role keeps the office running efficiently, handling a bit of everything. Outside of work, Kristina enjoys exercise, pilates, walking, and downhill skiing—and is happiest when a trip has been booked.

Ewan Lauchland
Architect

Ewan is an Architect with a broad range of experience across project scales and sectors, with a particular interest in sustainable and low-energy building design. He believes that good design can positively impact the lives and well-being of those who experience it. He holds an MArch from the University of Dundee and is a registered Architect.

Craig Morrison
Senior Architectural Technician

Craig is a Senior Architectural Technician with over seven years’ experience in the timber frame industry, specialising in off-site manufacturing and sustainable design. He is responsible for technical design and project coordination, ensuring that detailed drawings, compliance checks, and practical solutions come together seamlessly across projects. With a strong focus on innovation and efficiency, Craig brings both technical expertise and a collaborative approach to delivering high-quality results. Outside of work, he enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family.

Michael Smyth 
Architectural Technologist

Michael is an Architectural Technologist specialising in residential alterations, dedicated to turning client visions into reality. With over ten years’ experience across all RIBA stages, he has contributed to a wide range of residential, commercial, and large-scale housing projects. Before joining Thomson Hunter Associates five years ago, Michael gained valuable experience with Mast and BMJ Architects in Glasgow, focusing on healthcare, education, and residential work. Outside the studio, he enjoys fishing along the Dunure coastline and is a passionate hobbyist musician.

Vikki joined Thomson Hunter in 2021 during her professional experience years and graduated with a First-Class Master’s degree. Since then, she has gained extensive experience across bespoke residential and large-scale commercial projects. Known for her meticulous attention to detail and creative design approach, Vikki has recently expanded her skills into contract administration and project management. With chartership on the horizon, she continues to build her professional expertise, contributing high-quality design work across the practice. Outside the office, she divides her time between home renovation projects, fitness, and spending time with friends and family.

Part II Architectural Assistant

Jazmine Rose Emmanuel
Part II Architectural Assistant

Jazmine specialises in designing and developing site-specific concept proposals, visualisations, and planning applications, while also supporting the production of technical drawing packages. She works closely with clients and consultants to communicate ideas clearly throughout each project stage. A 2024 graduate of the Mackintosh School of Architecture, Jazmine completed her Part I in Guernsey, Channel Islands, where she focused on nature-based rural projects. At THA, she supports the design of rural homes and community spaces that aim to enhance wellbeing. She is currently undertaking her RIBA Part III and continues to pursue her interests in biophilic and sensory design.

Jack Lawlor
Part I Architectural Assistant

Jack supports the team in delivering high-quality drawing packages and coordinating project information through all stages of design and construction. He has a strong grasp of current building regulations and brings hands-on experience across residential and conversion projects, as well as contributions to schemes in the healthcare and education sectors. Jack holds a BSc (Hons) in Architectural Studies from the University of Strathclyde. Outside of architecture, his passion for photography inspires his work—sharpening his eye for detail, composition, and precision in every project he’s involved in.

Chris Boles 
Architectural Technician

Chris is an Architectural Technician with a strong foundation in design, supporting the studio through measured surveys and the development of detailed CAD drawings across a diverse range of UK projects. He holds qualifications in Interior Design and Architectural Design Technology, and has studied architecture part-time at both the Glasgow School of Art and the University of Strathclyde. Recently returning to practice, Chris brings a hands-on, design-led approach to his work. Outside the studio, he enjoys CrossFit, cycling, DIY, and outdoor adventures with his dog, Obi.
